Geofence Setup

How do I set up geofence notifications for a car wash location?

Set a 50-500 meter radius from the Branches screen, not the card's address text — Apple Wallet users see your message on their lock screen free as they drive past.

Geofence is set on the Branches screen, not on the card's address text

Set up geofence for a car wash by opening the Branches screen in the dashboard — not by editing the address text shown on the card itself, which is the most common mix-up. The geofence radius is a separate setting tied to the branch location, available on Growth and above, with Apple Wallet customers seeing your message on their lock screen automatically when their phone comes within range.

The radius runs from 50 to 500 meters, defaulting to 150 meters, and covers up to 10 branch locations on one card. It costs zero message quota, since it isn't a wallet-message send in the usual sense — it's a location-triggered lock-screen update, separate entirely from your monthly message balance.

Google Wallet handles proximity differently and decides its own trigger distance — Waya's 50-500 meter control applies to Apple Wallet only, so don't promise Android customers the same specific radius.

Pick a radius that matches your street, not a default guess

A wash on a wide arterial road with fast-moving traffic benefits from a larger radius (closer to 300-500 meters) to catch drivers before they've already passed the turn-off. A wash tucked into a side street or a small commercial cluster works better with a tighter radius (closer to 50-150 meters), since a wide radius there would fire for people who were never going to turn in anyway.

Test the default 150 meters for the first week, then adjust based on how the messages feel — too many irrelevant triggers means tightening the radius; customers saying they wish they'd seen it sooner means widening it.

  • Wide, fast road → wider radius (300-500 m) to reach drivers before the turn
  • Narrow side street or plaza → tighter radius (50-150 m) to avoid irrelevant triggers
  • Start at the 150 m default and adjust after a week of real data
  • Geofence settings live on the Branches screen — never the card's address field

Radius guidance by location type

Use this as a starting point, not a fixed rule — every street is a little different.

Branch settingSuggested radiusWhy
Main highway or arterial road300-500 mCatches drivers before they've passed the turn

Turn on geofence in five steps

This only needs to be done once per branch, though the radius can be adjusted at any time.

  1. Confirm your plan supports geofence

It's a Growth-and-above feature, not available on Free.

  2. Open the Branches screen

Not the card's address field — a separate settings area.

  3. Set the branch's exact address

Accuracy here determines where the radius actually centers.

  4. Choose a radius

Start at the 150 m default, or adjust for a wide road or a tight street.

  5. Write a short geofence message

Under 100 characters, tied to something specific about the card.

Geofence is Growth and above, and costs nothing per trigger

The geofence settings screen itself requires Growth (85 SAR/mo) or Premium — it isn't part of the Free plan's single-branch trial. Once enabled, though, every geofence trigger fires at zero cost against your monthly message balance, which makes it one of the highest-value features once you've upgraded, since it doesn't compete with your campaign or trigger budget at all.

What geofence doesn't cover

Geofence has no delivery report — you won't see a confirmation that a specific customer's phone triggered near your branch, only that the feature is configured and running. It's also Apple Wallet only, so it won't reach Android customers on Google Wallet, who get their own device-decided proximity behavior instead.

None of this connects to your till either — Waya has no POS or till integration, so a customer seeing your geofence message still needs a staff member to scan their card by hand once they arrive and the wash is done.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I set up geofence for a car wash branch?

From the Branches screen in the dashboard, not from the card's address text — that's a common mix-up. Geofence is a separate setting available on Growth and above.

What radius should a car wash use for geofence?

The default is 150 meters, but a wide, fast road suits a larger radius (300-500 m) while a tight side street suits a smaller one (50-150 m). Start at the default and adjust after a week.

Does geofence cost message quota?

No — geofence triggers cost zero against your monthly message balance, since it's a location-triggered lock-screen update, not a wallet-message send.

Does geofence work for Android customers?

Not with the same control. Geofence's 50-500 meter radius applies to Apple Wallet only; Google Wallet decides its own proximity trigger distance.

Is geofence available on the Free plan?

No — the geofence settings screen requires Growth (85 SAR/mo) or Premium. The Free plan's single branch doesn't include geofence.
