Geofence Setup

How do I set up geofence notifications for a barbershop location?

Set a 150 m default radius around your barbershop so a client's lock screen shows the card as they walk by — Apple Wallet only, free to send.

Geofence is set from the Branches screen, not the card's address field

Setting up geofence notifications for a barbershop location happens on the Branches screen of the dashboard, not by typing an address into the card's design fields — the card's address text is just display copy and doesn't create a working geofence on its own. When a customer with the loyalty card walks near the branch, their lock screen shows the card along with the merchant's message, with zero message-balance cost since geofence triggers don't draw from the monthly quota.

This is Apple Wallet only — Google Wallet decides its own trigger distance and Waya can't configure a fixed radius for it — so a barbershop should think of geofence as a bonus channel for iPhone clients specifically, on top of the welcome, stamp, and win-back triggers that work for everyone.

A few numbers matter here, and they're fixed by the wallet platform rather than something to tune endlessly.

Six steps to turn on geofence for your shop

Setup is quick once the branch address is confirmed, but the address has to be accurate — a wrong pin means the geofence triggers in the wrong place entirely.

  1. Confirm your branch address is set correctly

Geofence uses the branch's actual location, not the card's display address text.

  2. Open the geofence settings screen

Available on Growth and Premium — Free doesn't include the geofence settings screen.

  3. Set the radius

150 m is the default and works for most single-location shops; adjust between 50-500 m for a tighter mall unit or a wider standalone shop.

  4. Write the geofence message

Keep it short — something like 'Just around the corner? Your next stamp is waiting.'

  5. Repeat for each branch, up to 10

A multi-branch chain sets radius and message per location, not once for the whole chain.

  6. Walk-test it yourself

Walk toward the shop with the card in your own Apple Wallet to confirm the message appears at the expected distance.

Choosing the right radius for your location

A barbershop in a busy mall or a tight commercial strip should lean toward the smaller end of the 50-500 m range, since a wide radius in a dense area might trigger for people who were never actually headed to your shop — passing traffic on the same street, a neighboring block. A standalone shop with a parking lot and clear approach roads can use a wider radius, closer to 300-500 m, since there's less risk of false triggers from unrelated foot or car traffic nearby.

The default 150 m works well for most single-location barbershops and is a reasonable starting point before tuning up or down based on how the neighborhood is laid out.

  • Dense mall or commercial strip: lean toward 50-150 m to avoid unrelated passing traffic
  • Standalone shop with a clear approach: 150-500 m works without much risk of false triggers
  • Multi-branch chains set radius independently per branch — a mall location and a standalone location shouldn't use the same setting
  • Geofence costs nothing from your message balance, so testing different radii has no cost beyond your own time

What geofence adds beyond scheduled messages

Geofence catches a moment scheduled campaigns and triggers can't: a client who happens to be nearby, whether or not they were planning to come in. This works especially well for a barbershop near a mosque, a mall, or a busy street corner, where foot traffic passes close by regularly without necessarily thinking about a haircut until the reminder appears.

It's a complement to, not a replacement for, the win-back trigger — win-back reaches a lapsed client wherever they are, while geofence reaches an active or lapsed client specifically when they're near the door. Multi-branch chains should also confirm each branch is added correctly before relying on per-location geofence radii.

Where geofence fits your plan and Waya's limits

The geofence settings screen is Growth-plan and above (85 SAR/mo or 867 SAR/yr for Growth), not part of Free. A single-branch Free-plan shop can still run welcome, stamp, and win-back triggers without geofence, and add it once the shop moves to Growth.

Two limits to note: geofence works on Apple Wallet only, so it doesn't reach Google Wallet or web-card customers, and there's no delivery report for geofence sends, so you won't see a per-message confirmation the way you might expect from a broadcast campaign.

Frequently asked questions

Does geofence work on Google Wallet too?

No — geofence is Apple Wallet only. Google Wallet decides its own trigger distance and Waya can't configure a fixed radius for it.

What's the default geofence radius?

150 meters, adjustable between 50-500 m per branch. Denser locations like malls usually work better with a smaller radius; standalone shops can use a wider one.

Does sending a geofence message use up my message balance?

No — geofence triggers cost zero from the monthly message quota, unlike broadcasts and other triggers.

How many branches can use geofence on one card?

Up to 10 branch locations per card, each with its own radius and message, useful for a multi-branch barbershop chain.

Is geofence available on the Free plan?

No — the geofence settings screen requires Growth or Premium. Free-plan shops can still run welcome, stamp, and win-back triggers without it.
