Cashier for attendants, Branch Manager for the shift lead
Set up a car wash's staff with Cashier access for every attendant who scans cards at the till, and reserve Branch Manager for whoever runs the shift — the two Waya staff roles that exist. Cashier can add or deduct points and stamps, which is all a till attendant actually needs to do all day; Branch Manager can do everything except run campaigns, which suits the person responsible for the location but not for sending customer messages.
This split matters because giving every attendant full manager access is both unnecessary and a little risky — an attendant doesn't need to see dashboard analytics, edit the card design, or manage staff accounts, and limiting them to Cashier keeps the till interaction fast and focused on exactly one action: scan, stamp, done.
Neither role can manage other staff accounts or edit billing — that stays with the account owner regardless of role, on both roles equally. Think of Cashier as the floor-level role built for speed and repetition, and Branch Manager as the oversight role built for someone accountable for the location as a whole, not for the day-to-day scanning queue.
What each role can and can't do
The distinction is deliberately simple: one role runs the till, the other runs the branch.
| Action | Cashier | Branch Manager |
|---|---|---|
| Scan a card and add/deduct a stamp or point | Yes | Yes |
| View dashboard analytics for the branch | No | Yes |
| Run or schedule a campaign | No | No — campaigns need the account owner |
| Edit the card design or branch settings | No | Yes |
A single-branch wash needs fewer roles than it thinks
For a single-branch car wash with an owner who's usually on site, the simplest setup is Cashier for every attendant and Branch Manager for one shift lead — often the owner themselves, or a trusted senior attendant on days the owner isn't present. There's rarely a reason to give more than one or two people Branch Manager access at a single location, since spreading that access too widely just recreates the same confusion about who's responsible for the branch that the two-role system was designed to avoid.
- Every till attendant → Cashier (scan and stamp only)
- One shift lead per location → Branch Manager (everything except campaigns)
- Campaigns stay with the account owner regardless of branch size
- Growth includes up to 5 staff accounts total; Premium is unlimited
Set up staff roles in five steps
This takes minutes once the branch itself exists in the dashboard.
- Open the staff accounts screen
Found in the dashboard's team or staff settings section.
- Add each attendant as Cashier
One account per attendant, tied to their name for accountability.
- Add the shift lead as Branch Manager
Usually the owner or a senior, trusted attendant.
- Confirm each account against the right branch
For multi-branch chains, staff are assigned per location, not shared automatically.
- Walk each new staff member through a test scan
Confirm they can add a stamp before their first real shift.
Staff limits by plan
The Free plan doesn't include staff accounts at all — it's built for a single owner-operator running one branch alone. Staff roles become available starting on Growth, which includes up to 5 staff accounts across the whole plan (not per branch), rising to unlimited on Premium.
A single-branch wash with three or four attendants fits comfortably inside Growth's 5-staff allowance; a multi-branch chain splitting staff across locations should count total headcount against that same limit, not per-branch.
What staff roles don't cover
Neither role connects to a till or POS system — Waya has no POS or till integration at all, so Cashier access is specifically about scanning the customer's wallet card on an ordinary phone, not about ringing up a sale. There's no SMS channel either; campaign sending (reserved for the account owner) goes to the wallet lock screen only.
For chains, remember each branch gets its own staff assignments — adding someone as Cashier at branch one doesn't give them access at branch two automatically.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between Cashier and Branch Manager on Waya?
Cashier can add or deduct stamps and points — the action a till attendant needs. Branch Manager can do everything except run campaigns, suited to whoever runs the shift or location.
How many staff accounts does a car wash get?
Growth includes up to 5 staff accounts across the plan; Premium is unlimited. The Free plan doesn't include staff accounts and is built for a single owner-operator.
Should every car wash attendant get Branch Manager access?
No — give attendants Cashier access only. It covers scanning and stamping, which is all the till interaction needs, without exposing dashboard analytics or settings unnecessarily.
Can a Branch Manager send campaign messages?
No. Neither Cashier nor Branch Manager can run campaigns — that stays with the account owner regardless of role.
Does Cashier access connect to the car wash's till or register?
No. Waya has no POS or till integration; Cashier access is specifically for scanning a customer's wallet card on an ordinary phone, separate from any payment system.
